Johnny HoT Stuff HoT Date HoT Sauce Star rating 1-Star.
Aromas of all the main ingredients evident – a welcome and enticing mix. A well constructed sauce, delicately handled, allowing the fruit to register in the flavour profile. The heat from the chilli allows fun rather than ferocity. We like this. Subtly sweet at first, the heat then starts to build. Dates and hints of tamarind as promised. Very enjoyable.
Chocolate habaneros are notorious for their heat so it will be interesting to see how the sweet gentle date fares alongside. The colour is like milk chocolate – fitting for this sauce. It has a fairly smooth flowing consistency. On tasting, the sweetness of the date and its texture are immediately apparent. The chilli comes through pretty quickly but is not as fiery as expected, which allows the dates and tamarind to come through.
This would be delicious with rich meats, vegetables, salads and cheeses. One judge did wonder if a dash of lemon or lime or a little more tamarind for acidity might lift it even more but all agreed it was worthy of an award.
Johnny Hot Stuff sauces are quite simply the best I’ve ever tasted. My particular favourite is the fruity bonnet sauce that I really can’t get enough of. In fact I’ve just taken delivery of 3 bottles of it plus 3 bottles of the Mangonero (mango & habanero) sauce. Highly recommend all of his products 5★
Hello, when will you be attending the Woodley market again? We’re running low on our supplies especially the salt! Best thing on this earth! - Esta.
Hey, I bought some Chilli sauces, chilli salt & dried Chillis from you at the Caversham market on Sunday. So far very impressed! I swapped the mild one out of the gift set for the new spicy for my brother in law. I had the milder one with chicken!! Yum!!! I also bought a little tester of the new extra spicy one for myself! Love it... it has replaced my much loved Tabasco!!! Great job! Super yummy products! - Ms.JEA19
I brought two bottles of Johnny's sauce last week, Hot Date and Mangonero.
Some of the nicest hot sauces I have encountered thus far. I'll be back for more!
